WJHO Radio at 1400 on the AM dial took to the air in 1940. This photo shows the offices, studios and tower which were located on Pepperell Parkway in Opelika for decades with owner Jack Smollen at the helm. In 1997, the station was purchased by Auburn Network, Inc. and the call letters changed to WANI. Our sister station, NewsTalk WANI, still broadcasts on 1400 AM and is now on the FM band as well at 98.7. Auburn Network staff members John Bodiford and Bob Wooddy both worked at WJHO at this location early in their careers.
